With Brilliance China Automotive (1114 HK) nearing a year of trading following the resumption in October 2022, the stock could be added back to global passive portfolios over the next few months.
Global passive portfolios could see the same pattern of buying as the Gcl Poly Energy Holdings Limited (3800 HK) re-inclusion following the resumption of trading following the long suspension.
First up, we could see the stock added to the iShares Emerging Markets (EEM US) in November. The special dividend of HK$0.96/share (25% dividend yield) that went ex on 11 August has resulted in a drop in market cap and Brilliance China Automotive (1114 HK) will need to move higher by low double digits to be included in the ETF.
Inclusion will require passive trackers will need to buy around 265m shares (US$106m; 9.2 days of ADV) of Brilliance China Automotive (1114 HK).
Then, we could have Vanguard Emerging Markets ETF (VWO US) buying stock in March 2024. There is small possibility that the buying could take place next month.
The impact will be smaller at around 57.5m shares (US$23m; 2 days of ADV) of Brilliance China Automotive (1114 HK) to buy.
