Pull through exists when the buyer’s customers “pull” (demand) a product or service through the buyer. Pull through usually requires a strong brand, and can only exist when there are intermediaries between the branding industry and the consumer.Consider the breakfast cereal industry in which major grocery chains are animportant buyer. The grocery stores must carry major brands (e.g., Kellogg’s)because end consumers demand these brands. This pull-through reduces thebargaining power of grocery retailers because they cannot threaten to stop carrying.
