Why cannot this blue bird fly?

Well, $Twitter(TWTR)$, for this blue bird, people are getting frustrated and wondering why it cannot fly like other Bluebird (I think you know which one I am talking about [俏皮])

Since all of you have read that ER and might have NOT listened to that "surprising" CC, let's just be straighforward and look at ONE thing they said.

Anthony Noto - Chief Financial Officer said the following words

(source: Twitter CC scripts)

First of all, we need to give this guy some credits for being honest to say things like this on such an important CC (might be one the of most critical CCs in company history). Secondly, are you out of your mind for saying this??? Twitter was founded in 2006 and went public in Nov, 2013. You mean you still cannot start to reach the mass market and need considerable period of time to do that after 9 straight years???  [滴汗][滴汗][滴汗]Where is the mass market in your opinion...[摊手]

While outside the CC, here is something interesting observed by the media.

Two Twitter executives just abandoned ship today. Todd Jackson, former director of product management, and Christian Oestline, former vice president of product management, are leaving for Dropbox and $谷歌(GOOG)$  respectively.

Todd Jackson will take the title as head of product at Dropbox and Christian Oestline gets thriiled to be joining YouTube team at Google.

At the same, the interim CEO of Twitter might be busy with the Square IPO now... (I am seriously thinking this is possible[笑]).

And the company wants to convince investors that they can execute disciplinely. Seriously???

Here are some figures you might want to check and I think they can help you to understand why this bird is still on the ground.

Facebook is growing strongly and is fighting against Google in some areas. Twitter is struggling to find its direction and has been burning money for 9 years.

Let me emphasize this, Twitter is not in the same league where $Facebook(FB)$ is playing. Some of Twitter's loss is actually Facebook's gain. Facebook is the mother of all social networks and current true leader in this area.

Obviously, Twitter still has some value. However, if you want to play speculation on any buyout rumor, I recommend you take a second look at the figure on the bottom right. And if you want to be a value player here, I suggest you think twice before building your position since you may need to hold that position for a considerable period of time. Or you can just simply buy the true leader on pullbacks instead of hanging around the loser...

Good luck!

Twitter has never been able to figure out a monetization model, and the departing execs were in charge of product, which means they were part of the problem. Look at Facebook in 2013, people doubted their monetization, and they ended up answering their critics by rolling out newsfeed ads. If Twitter does not roll out massive changes to the user experience to allow for better monetization soon, their stock will flatline. It's a shame because they are already king in news propagation (breaking news always happen on twitter), but they cannot do anything with that
