Graphenano is a Spanish company based in Yecla (Murcia) presented in Madrid its graphene polymer battery that can largely solve obstacles to the development of the electric car.
Graphene is a material obtained from graphite. It was discovered in 1930 but stopped working with him because of his instability. Now it is in bricks or in the mines of pencils. In 2004, Russian scientists Novoselov and Geim managed to isolate it at room temperature, a discovery that earned them the Nobel Prize in 2010.
Viewing on the TV channel Discovery Channel program about the exploits of these Russian scientists, Martin Martinez decided to create Graphenano, a company dedicated to the processing and marketing of graphene and presented in Madrid the alliance with the Chinese company Chint. The latter would have paid 18 million euros for 10% of the Spanish company.
Will Grabat Energy, a subsidiary of Graphenano, which will list, from October, a plant in Yecla with 20 lines that will produce 80 million cells to compose batteries. In this first phase, Grabat will have 200 employees and an investment of 30 million euros, contributed equally by Chint and Graphenano.
The second phase will be much more ambitious. The Chinese company will contribute 350 million euros to Graphenano make a second factory in Yecla. Both form a joint venture to market their products in China. It is expected to have a global turnover exceeding 3,000 million and that has 5,000 employees.
In addition to batteries for home, mobile, aircraft also produce for bicycles, motorbikes, cars and drones. Grabat has achieved a battery with a range of 800 kilometers and a weight of just 100 kilograms that can be loaded into a conventional outlet only one-third the time required by a lithium-ion-lithium equivalent (which are riding automakers in their electric models). Mario Martinez said in a high-density plug "could be loaded in just five minutes."
According to officials of Grabat, at equal weight of your battery with a vehicle segment Renault Zoe, the autonomy of the polymer graphene reach 637 kilometers off the 210 which allow the lithium ion to Zoe . Adapted to a model like the Tesla Model S, this would increase from 334 to 1,013 kilometers. In a Nissan Leaf autonomy would increase from 250 to 546 kilometers on a single charge.
Martinez says that "graphene will the third industrial revolution" both its energy efficiency and its sharply lower costs. Nan Cunhui, chairman of Chint, said Graphenano confidence is total and that they plan to increase their investment in the Spanish company to increase production.
The Volkswagen Group could be the first to ride in series
After the fraud emissions, Matthias Müller, CEO of the VW Group, said that by 2020 20 models electrified in the group's brands will be launched. Several of them 100% electrical and travel more than 500 kilometers on a single charge. These ranges give rise to speculation that the VW Group could be the first to introduce in series polymer batteries graphene in its 100% electric vehicles or plug-in hybrids. From Grabat Energy progresses only: "We hope that models produced in series at the end of 2017 with the company that we have the agreement and even with one that is accelerating the approval of our battery for models". Porsche announced the sports Mission E, a 100% electric vehicle by 2018; and Audi, e-tron Quattro, an SUV also 100% electric. Both offer more than 500 kilometers of autonomy.
