If you’re an aspiring engineer, your choice of college can make or break your career before it even gets off the ground. In 2017, the undergraduate Electrical and Computer Engineering programs at US universities are ranked among the top in the country according to new data from the US News & World Report annual rankings of US colleges and universities. Princeton University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, and Cornell University take the first four spots on the list once again this year, but what about some of the other top-ranked schools? Where do they fall on this ranking?



NO1. Stanford University
Stanford U ranked number 1 in electrical and computer engineering according to the latest QS World Rankings. Stanford U has a highly competitive admissions system, with an acceptance rate of 5.8%. The university is home to five Nobel laureates and hosts the world's most powerful electron microscope in the world. It also offers a range of undergraduate majors including aerospace, mechanical, civil, environmental, geological, chemical engineering.

No1. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)

MIT is ranked first in the electrical and computer engineering category, with Stanford coming in second. The university has been the top-ranked school for electrical and computer engineering since this list was released. MIT has a strong focus on innovation, entrepreneurship, creativity, and technology. The same ranking on the list is Stanford University.

No3. University of Calfornia Berkeley
UC Berkeley has been ranked as the number one university in the nation for both Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering, with a joint rank of 1. UC Berkeley also received three more rankings in the Electrical and Computer Engineering category, receiving ranks at 4th place for doctoral level production/operations research; 6th place for doctoral level electrical engineering; and 8th place for master's level electrical engineering.


No4. Carnegie Mellon University
Ranked #4 in the Electrical Engineering category, Carnegie Mellon University features a rigorous course load with faculty members that are some of the top researchers in the field. The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon is ranked first in the nation by U.S. News & World Report for undergraduate programs.

No4. University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC)
In the Electrical Engineering category, UIUC ranked 2nd in the world, 4th in North America, 3rd in the United States, and 2nd in Illinois. In Computer Science Engineering category, UIUC ranked 10th in the world, 11th in North America, 12th in the United States, and 6th in Illinois. For its Electrical and Computer Engineering programs combined, UIUC ranked 8th in the world, 7th in North America, 5th in the United States, and 5th in Illinois.

No6. University of Michigan, Ann Arbor
This year, the Electrical Engineering Department at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor ranked 10th in terms of undergraduate electrical engineering programs.
Ranked #1 among public universities, U-M is one of only two schools that offer a PhD in electrical engineering.
Michigan also has an accredited online master's program for those who are unable to visit campus.
In addition to electrical engineering, U-M offers postgraduate degrees in Computer Engineering and Biomedical Engineering.

No6.Purdue University
A good school for electrical and computer engineering is Purdue University. The Electrical Engineering Department at Purdue has a long history of research innovation, with an internationally recognized faculty. As part of its commitment to cutting-edge research in the field, Purdue established the Birck Nanotechnology Center in 2000—the first university-based center in the world dedicated to nanotechnology.
Ivy League schools such as Princeton University, Harvard University, Yale University are also excellent choices for those who want to study electrical and computer engineering.

No6.Georgia Institute of Technology
Georgia Tech is ranked at number 10 in the world according to the Electrical and Computer Engineering Ranking of World Universities. This means that it is one of the best places for electrical engineers to study in the world.

No6.University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin)
UT Austin offers the Electrical Engineering degree program, which is ranked 10th in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. The school also offers a Computer Engineering degree program, which is ranked 7th in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. There are many other electrical and computer engineering programs at UT Austin that rank highly as well, such as their graduate level Electrical Engineering program (ranked 3rd) and graduate level Computer Engineering program (ranked 4th).

No6.Cornell University
In the Electrical and Computer Engineering category, Cornell University ranked #5. This major is perfect for students who want to design electronic circuits, develop programming languages, or explore digital communication. As a student at Cornell you will learn how to use the latest technology in order to create the next big thing. Courses offered include Solid State Circuit Design, Circuits and Systems Laboratory, Analog Electronics Laboratory, Digital Electronics Laboratory.
