(TMTPOST)—Moonshot AI revealed a groundbreaking achievement in its large model long-context window technology on Monday. The Kimi intelligent assistant is capable of supporting ultra-long, lossless context of up to two million words, marking a tenfold increase in long-text input volume in just five months. The product has entered the beta testing phase.

Xu Xinran, Vice President of Engineering at Moonshot AI, said the significant breakthrough has not only opened up new possibilities for AI application scenarios, but also enhanced capabilities such as comprehensive codebase analysis, autonomous completion of multi-step complex tasks by intelligent agents, perpetual assistants that retain crucial information, and genuinely unified architecture of multimodal models.

Yang Zhilin, founder of Moonshot AI, highlighted the importance of lossless long-context as a critical foundational technology on the path to Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).

He underscored that throughout history, the evolution of model architectures has primarily focused on increasing the effective length of lossless context, a fundamental aspect on the journey to AGI.

Moonshot AI's co-founder, Zhou Xinyu, said that the company is set to launch its proprietary multimodal large model within the year, alongside rapid progress in commercialization efforts.

Moonshot AI, founded in March 2023, has quickly become a key player in the domestic large model field. Its core team had worked in teams for major large model developments at Google, Huawei's Pangu large model, and Zhiyuan Wudao, prior to joining Moonshot.

Yang Zhilin, CEO of Moonshot AI, holds a bachelor's degree from Tsinghua University and a Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University in computer science. He had worked at Google Brain and the American startup FAIR, collaborating with multiple Turing Award winners in research publications. Meanwhile, co-founders Zhou Xinyu and Wu Yuxin each have over 10,000 Google Scholar citations.

With over 80 team members, Moonshot AI has secured over $1.3 billion in funding within its first year of inception, with investors including Sequoia China, ZhenFund, Xiaohongshu, Meituan, and Alibaba. Moonshot AI's valuation currently stands at an estimated $2.5 billion after two funding rounds.

Moonshot AI's flagship product, Kimi, has seen a surge in popularity since its launch. In January 2024, Kimi's intelligent assistant recorded over 1.42 million visits, ranking first among AI ChatBots products in large model startups, with a month-on-month increase of 94.1%.

Moonshot AI's team is committed to continuously improving Kimi's capabilities, with plans to introduce tutorial prompts and develop multimodal models to meet evolving user needs. The company is also focusing on optimizing AI infrastructure for enhanced efficiency.

While Kimi remains free for users, Moonshot AI is preparing to introduce commercialization plans in the first half of this year.

The company emphasizes a user-centric approach, prioritizing problem-solving and value delivery. Moonshot AI aims to provide solutions that address user needs effectively, with commercialization strategies designed to align with these principles.
