1032 GMT - Zambia's hopes to continue to raise its copper production beyond 2021 as miners step up operations amid rising demand for industrial metals, with global commodity markets looking past the disruptions from the Covid-19 pandemic, the mines ministry says. Output from Africa's No.2 producer posted a 10% rise last year to reach 880,000 metric tons and may hit 900,000 tons in 2021 as miners such as First Quantum Minerals Ltd. and China Nonferrous Mining Corp. ramp up operations. Global copper prices have risen to multi-year highs this year, and the continuing boom in the electric vehicle industry is expected to support prices, aiding a recovery of Zambia's main industry, says mines minister Richard Musukwa.
