Market Highlights
Another quiet day in US markets, as the morning’s economic releases (jobless claims and personal consumption) came in broadly as expected. Despite tomorrow’s release of the US jobs report, which historically has been a trigger for market movement, it appears US investors are gearing up for the long weekend (Monday is Labor Day). The muted expectation for the jobs report is also reflected in the one-day straddles in the S&P 500 which indicate an expected movement of some 26 points (0.6%) in this index.
Asian night futures were also little changed, with small gains in Hong Kong and China and small losses elsewhere.
