In January 2013, the MII reported that the number of mobile phone users in China increased by 126 million to reach 1.1 billion at the end of 2012. Mobile users with 3G capabilities reached 233 million at the end of 2012, an increase of 104 million from the prior year. In a report issued in December 2012, IDC estimated that China’s smartphone shipments will reach 300 million in 2013 and total smartphone users will reach 500 million by the end of 2013.
