A Quick Takeaway From Bloomberg's Plug Power Piece
从彭博对Plug报道中提取的有用信息
A Bloomberg article focused on Plug Power andcontaining quotes from an interview with CEO Andy Marsh was released duringpremarket hours today. The comments reiterated what was already known to longtime bulls (or bears) who have been closely following Plug Power since lastyear. However, there was some key information in said article that may hinttowards future catalysts for Plug.
Here are some highlights I feel worthmentioning: 这是我认为值得大家重视的一些关键点
The U.S. Energy Department shares this view and expects to award $30 million inresearch grants this year, an officialsaid yesterday at the Bloomberg New Energy Finance conference in New York.
Last time Plug Power received a research grant(regarding FedEx range extenders), shares rocketed higher. If Plug Powerreceives any chunk of that $30 million, I'd expect similar price action.
"It (material handling market) was nevermeant to be the end-all market for us."
Now that he’s found a niche to sustain thecompany, Marsh wants to expand into new areas where fuel cells can compete withelectricity from fossil fuels.
This highlights how big CEO Andy Marsh reallyplans on going with Plug Power in the future. If Marsh views the forkliftmarket, which has the potential to generate hundreds of millions of dollars inannual revenue in the coming years, as a niche that is merely a pawn being usedto sustain the company as they make their entrance into bigger and bettermarkets, then I'm thrilled as a long term shareholder. Just how big Marshmanages to take Plug Power in the future is anyone's guess, but signs point toHUGE.
Commercial (Transportation Refrigeration Units)sales will begin in about 18 months, Marsh said. “It’s more of a logistics playthan fuel savings, but it’s a similar size to the material handling market,”Marsh said.
TRUs will be a massive logistics play. Theability for distributors to deliver to establishments all night in the earlymorning hours with no possibility of violating local noise ordinances is huge! This will increase operational efficiencies for distributors, such as Syscowho has been testing their products.
I was unaware of the 18 months timeline.October 2015 ETA of TRUs.
Marsh expects to negotiate sales of this equipment (ground support equipment for airports) by the end of this year.
Another timeline worth mentioning for sales.Expect commercialization of GSEs by Q4 2014.
Marsh期待在今年年底之前可以谈成机场地面辅助设备的销售合同。
另一个值得大家注意的的时间是预计2014年Q4可以完成地面辅助设备的商品化销售。
The deal (ReliOn acquisition) also lets Plugoffer stationary fuel cells that provide backup power for applicationsincluding mobile-phone towers. That’s a return to the company’s roots, since itoffered similar products years ago, before it decided to focus on forklifts. Italso developed back-up power systems for homes, hospitals and militaryfacilities.
“We’re happy to promote fuel cells of alltypes,” said. “In four or five years much more devices will be using hydrogenas a fuel source.”
This alludes to my post last week (Putting ThePieces Together) alluding to the fact that it would be very easy and seemsabout right for Plug to re-enter the telecom industry, given the fact that Marshand recently hired Jose Crespo are telecom industry veterans.
The bears remain in control right now, as morethan 22 million shares are sold shorts, more than 25% of the float. And theclock is ticking away as Marsh is expected to announce a new deal with an automanufacturer by next week. Signs point to Volkswagen, but that's purespeculation.
Thetechnical are in line for a set up. Plug has been selling off on minimalvolume, and it continue to hold multiple short and medium term trend lines. RSIcontinues to hold support around 50.
On the weekly, Plug is steadily creepingtowards a bullish "golden cross." If this is confirmed and occurs onstrong volume, keep an eye out for Andrew Jackson.
